Phang (midnapore creeper) grows wild during monsoon. Kehendi Bai cooks the fresh leaves with moong daal (lentil) and the family relishes it with jowar roti (millet bread) and pepper-garlic condiments. A great favourite with the older generation, even preferred over fish & meat, but Kehendi observes that the younger generations are losing the taste as well as the knowledge of cooking it. The film is part of a series on local food and cuisine that are part of the tradition in the tribal villages of Narmada Valley and are a rich source of nutrition and wellbeing but are soon disappearing due to change in attitude and lifestyle.
