Dumroo – Synopsis. The nomadic Mariaai Community living in the remote places of Western Maharashtra State in India staunchly believes in their superstitious, age old tradition of ‘begging by self-flagellation’ in the name of their community Goddess Mariaai. Dumroo belongs to this community. He yearns to go to school but his drunkard,superstitious, illiterate father fears the wrath of Goddess Mariaai. He pushes him into begging at the tender age of seven ignoring even his wife’s suggestions.
