CMS College Kottayam established by the Church Missionary Society, is the pioneering Higher Education institution in India, which cradled modernity with new outlooks through the modern Higher Education system, four decades before the establishment of the first University in India in 1857. This institution was instrumental in ushering modernity through the reformation of the education system of the country, religious beliefs, customs and social behavior, language and literature and introducing a new thought process. Through the story of the first college in India, this documentary attempts at enquiring into the role of this great seat of learning in introducing the concept of modernity in Kerala, and reformations in the church, Kottayam, Travancore, Kerala, India and the British empire. It portrays the cultural past and social fabric of Kerala from a diverse angle forming an enhanced perception of modernity and reformations in the country.
