Subasri Krishnan’s films deal with contemporary politics through the lens of citizenship. Her first film “Brave New Medium” was on on internet censorship in South-East Asia. The award-winning “This or That Particular Person” looks at the idea of official identity documents. The film was adjudged as the Best Short Documentary Film at IDSFFK in 2013. “What The Fields Remember” her film on the Nellie massacre that took place in Assam in 1983, explores ideas of memory, violence and justice through survivors’ narratives. It has been screened at various film festivals and universities in India and abroad to critical acclaim. Subasri has recently completed a film titled “Sikhirni Mwsanai” (DDance of the Butterfly), a documentary feature on a disappearing live performance music form in Chirang District, Assam. Her forthcoming film “Shadow Lines” (production) explores questions of citizenship and nationhood in contemporary Assam through the National Register of Citizen (NRC) exercise.
