Akash is an alumnus of School of Media and Cultural Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. His co-directed final graduating film Dar-B-Dar (The Itinerants) won the Special Jury Mention (student film) at the Indian Documentary Producer’s Association awards 2017, and has been selected in many film festivals across the country. The documentary film explores the stories of the street hawkers in a market, which grew out of the rehabilitated population from the informal settlements of the city at Lallubhai Compound, Mumbai. He has worked as a project coordinator to produce nine short fiction and documentary films funded by Samaj Pragati Sahayog (SPS) and Films Division, Government of India. For nearly three years, he has worked with SPS Community Media in a severely drought prone area of Dewas in Madhya Pradesh. Working with SPS Community Media, he has been involved in film projects pertaining to issues like malnutrition, food sovereignty, early marriage, and poverty.
